@Roenie , genuinely. I did a slightly strange thing with this game - I pre-ordered it on Steam, but with no expectation of playing it for quite a few months. The post-release scenario looks pretty much as I expected it to be. I know it's probably insane commercial logic to release a beta at ful...

So I've used the uninstall method listed, and when i start a new game i still get modified, does this have to do with you changing the init.modified script? If so I need to get a hold of an original one. I tried restoring a save game back up before i figured out that something else was changed and ...

I've been wondering if this kind of imbalance is something that might be worrying other players? Some kinds of mission to seem to give preposterous rewards, not just credits but race rank. The idea that I could get to Hero of the Federation just by pottering around in Argon space doing a few taxi an...

I've never had one of these BBS messages (and I do skim-read the non-interactive ones). Are they only generated after a certain game time or something, or am I just being unlucky?

The Arrow sitting around in the ships' graveyard beyond Maelstrom. There's only one thing it's intended to do, which is go fast, and my, does it go fast! Great fun for those BBS M5 missions.

Ship specs you can already see in X3R, although you do need to use the keyboard.
Ooh, thanks. I'll look into that next time I fire it up.

I've been wondering if it's time to retire the 'verbose computer' voice as a way of giving supplementary information. For one thing, it means there's inevitably gaps in the speech files where new content has been introduced (e.g. the Xenon LX being announced simply as Xenon when targeted) because ge...

I'm also a Saitek user - in my case a Cyborg 3D USB Gold which I think I originally bought to play X-BTF, though I'm now onto my second (I broke the rudder with some overenthusiastic acceleration!). I guess that range has been entirely replaced by the Evo's.

So, for example, when Saya heads off to Farnham's Legend after Tony Marani, can I expect her to sit around and wait for me indefinitely? I've been crossing fingers and assuming so, after getting rather definitively blown up by his pirate friends when I tried that mission without many ship upgrades. ...

The false positive seems to have been fixed in the new version 805. I have to say, I find AVG6 remarkably effective considering it's freeware, and the updates are frequent enough that I, for one, have never been caught out.

Setting priority

This is a tech-y question, which I'm asking here because there are people who knew about the "-lowpri" switch that forced X-Tension to run in Normal rather than High priority, and fixed problems with sluggish keyboard response. I've got another game (Rally Championship 2000, should anyone care) with...

Got mine too. I'm actually not going to install it yet because I'm getting close to my goal of total elimination of the Teladi in XT, and I really don't like to leave unfinished business when it comes to genocidal psychopathy.

I rarely buy games (or anything, actually) on release, and so almost always get spoiled unless I take steps to avoid it. I consider that to be my responsibility. I can do other things till the game comes out, it doesn't bother me at all. Insofar as Koch is a publisher and therefore makes decisions o...

The one thing that slightly perturbed me in the preview was the question marks over the menu system. It's never been well-organized enough in the X games, so I hope that some of the last development time is being spent getting it as well-integrated and easy to navigate as possible.

Bobah083: that's a very fair supposition, though from what I'd read about this series of drivers I actually wasn't expecting any image quality fudges from Nvidia this time around. As I say, I'll need to do some proper comparisons; the demo just didn't look as good as I'd remembered.

XT and GeForce 52.16 drivers

Anyone else noticed some graphical corruption in the explosions in XT with the new ForceWare drivers? I'm getting some flickering and perhaps an excess of whiteness, only visible when you're very close to the explosion -- as when trailing a ship going for the capture.

I tried the X2 rolling demo with the 52.16s last night, on a GF4-Ti4200. I wasn't absolutely sure and might swap back to the 45.23s to check, but I wondered if there was some image quality degradation; it looked to me as though the bump mapping wasn't working properly. But that could very well be my...

There's an interesting mention of X2 in the release notes pdf file from Nvidia with the 52.16 drivers: GeForce FX5950 Ultra, Windows XP: "X2: The Threat" benchmark is choppy or jerky in some places. -- This fix will be included in the next NVIDIA.com driver release. It's surprising, looking at the l...
